Microsoft unveils enhanced ChatGPT AI-powered Bing and Edge browsers.
Microsoft's Bing search engine now uses ChatGPT's AI technology. Along with new AI-enhanced Edge browser features, the business promises a new web browsing and information-finding experience.
“It's a new day in search,” stated Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at the product launch. Nadella said web search hasn't changed in decades, but AI can give information faster.
“The race starts today,” Nadella added. “Most importantly, we want to have a lot of fun experimenting again in search, since it's high time.”

"The new Bing" was demonstrated today in numerous configurations. One mode displays regular search results alongside AI annotations (above), while another allows users directly ask the Bing chatbot questions via a chat interface like ChatGPT (below).
Microsoft displayed searches for recipes, travel suggestions, and Ikea furniture. One demo requested Bing to “create an itinerary for each day of a 5-day trip to Mexico City.” The chatbot responds with an approximate itinerary and links to more information.
New Bing can also find latest news, unlike ChatGPT. In The Verge's demos, the search engine answered questions about its own launch by providing news headlines from the last hour.
Microsoft claims these functionalities are powered by an updated version of GPT 3.5, the AI OpenAI language model that underpins ChatGPT. Microsoft calls this the "Prometheus Model," which is more powerful than GPT 3.5 and better at answering search queries with up-to-date information and annotated answers.
The new Bing is ready today "for desktop restricted preview," but users can only "ask" one of many predefined questions and get the same answers. A queue is available for future full access.

Microsoft is adding two AI-enhanced Edge browser functions, "chat" and "compose," to the new Bing. Edge's sidebar embeds these.
"Chat" lets users summarize and ask questions about a webpage or document, while "compose" helps write emails and social media postings from a few prompts.
Edge's new "chat" feature lets users query an AI chatbot about their document.

Microsoft and Google's AI efforts coincide with Bing's launch. AI text production has grown in popularity since ChatGPT went online last November. Microsoft, which has closely cooperated with ChatGPT inventor OpenAI, wants to profit on this excitement and has already stated how this technology would be incorporated across its office applications.
Google, meanwhile, has been surprised by a paradigm shift in how users find information online. The search giant's "code red" was apparently triggered by ChatGPT's launch, with long-absent founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin called in to assist protect the company's primary income engine.
Google unveiled Bard, their ChatGPT, yesterday to anticipate Microsoft's launch today. CEO Sundar Pichai called the software a "experimental conversational AI tool" and said it would deploy in the coming weeks.
AI-powered search
Microsoft and Google's broader question is: can AI chatbots replace search? What happens when this technology makes mistakes? How will it work with other online search methods?
The last argument is particularly essential because AI language systems like ChatGPT are known to portray erroneous information as fact. Since ChatGPT emerged on the web, AI-generated errors have ranged from chatbots making up biographical details about real individuals to scholarly articles and unsafe medical advice. Researchers have warned about this problem for years.
However, this AI ignorance is an issue. Google has been using AI to summarize web pages for years, but chatbots have raised awareness. This has led to some high-profile mistakes, like Google's response to "had a seizure now what?" with "hold the individual down or try to restrict their movements," which is the wrong thing to do.
Microsoft mentioned bias and "jailbreaking" in their presentation (tricking AI chatbots into disregarding filters intended to prevent them generating dangerous or hateful content). “With this offering, we have gone further than ever before to build approaches to monitoring and risk mitigation,” said Sarah Bird, responsible AI lead for Azure. http://sentrateknikaprima.com/
The corporation is also clearly ready for system failures (though the company will be hoping not as badly as its failed 2016 chatbot Tay). “Let's study together,” warns the new Bing interface. Bing's AI may make blunders. Check the facts and give us feedback to improve!"
The business didn't address how AI-assisted search could destabilize the web's ecosystem. AI systems like the new Bing collect web content without consumers clicking through, removing the income stream that keeps many sites afloat. This new search paradigm must maintain some existing agreements to succeed. https://ejtandemonium.com/
